Struggling

Charlie, even though he is a joy, is not an easy baby. Has never been easy. We are struggling with getting him to sleep in his crib. He will be six months old on the 12th and I don't see crib sleeping happening any time soon. The problem is that he needs to be bounced to sleep in his chair. He isn't the baby you can rock to sleep in your arms or lay down and have him fall asleep on his own. He needs to be swaddled but is able to roll over onto his stomach so that really isn't safe. You would think that he would be happy falling asleep on his tummy. Nope. He screams even louder! I tried very unsuccessfully three times today to get him to nap in his crib. He wanted NOTHING to do with it and fought me for almost 5 hours. I finally gave in and put him in his chair. He slept for over 2 hours. I am soooo tired of lugging that chair around and spending hours of my life bouncing him to sleep. I am soooo ready for him to be able to get to sleep on his own without screaming his poor little head off but I am clueless on how to get there. He also still wakes up every three hours at night wanting to eat. We are tired and feeling defeated. Everyone keeps telling us it will get easier. When? Oh dear lord, when??

  1. Hey! As a fellow blogger and Aug 2011 mommy I want to say that I feel your pain and might even have a solution. I have not had decent sleep for what seems like forever. Darya, like Charlie had to be rocked/bounced to sleep and she woke up multiple times a night - like a newborn again starting at 4 months. She also had to be swaddled, but busted out and was frustrated. Up until 3 nights ago when I got what I call the baby fat suit (http://www.facebook.com/MagicSleepsuit). It's for transitioning off the swaddle for babies who wiggle, startle themselves awake and have trouble going to sleep. We went from at least 30 mins with a fight to sleep to less than 2 - and 4 wakings a night to 2 or less. I am a believer now!! Just wanted to share because I feel your pain and I actually found a solution to mine. If you click on the Facebook site you'll see I offered my daughter to be their spokesbaby. :) Good luck!

  2. Hi, Maggie. We spoke a while back regarding running a baby equipment rental business and I've followed your blog ever since. I also had a baby in August - #3 - yikes! All 3 of my kids have been so different when it comes to sleep, but the last two have both been awesome sleepers and I think it has a lot to do with reaching out to other mamas and being more comfortable as a parent the second and third time around. I didn't look at the recommendation from Sara, but I have also found a wonderful product - the woombie http://www.thewoombie.com/?gclid=CIzJxJz6t64CFQSR7Qod-h4qqA I LOVE this product and it is great for the transition period. When my 6 month old learned to roll over she also started sucking her thumb and sleeping on her belly so she prefers not to be swaddled anymore, which was a hard concession for me since it worked so well with my middle child. She now sleeps through the night and doesn't make a peep when I put her in her crib though so I'm not complaining. Parenting is so humbling. Trust your gut and maybe check out some cool products that are out there. You have beautiful children and they have a great mama!
