Roughing It

Nope, we aren't camping. Camping would be a dream vacation right now compared to what's been going on at our house. Little Charlie is not improving on the formula for milk allergies. If anything, he's gotten worse. He cries when you hold him and he cries when you put him down. It takes an army to get him to nap or sleep. Seriously, I have to swaddle, shake and swing him all while stomping around in the bathroom with the fan turned on. That is the only thing that works. He can't be held and just fall asleep on you after eating like a normal child would. We are both mentally and physically exhausted. The pediatrician has ordered a stool sample. We should get those results back next week. He suggested a possible cause for Charlie's issues but I don't want to go into anything until we have definite answers. Until then, please keep him in your thoughts. We need a break and he needs a break. I would like to enjoy just holding him instead of bouncing all around while we both cry.

  1. Aw, hugs to both of you. Brodie had terrible, terrible reflux as an infant and at the time I couldn't see how we were ever going to get through it. I was so exhausted. He was so exhausted. It was...exhausting.

I hope things turn around for you both! xo

  2. Oh you poor things that sounds exhausting. Have you got a baby carrier one that you can hold him upright in, like a baby bjorn or something like it? Maybe the deep pressure of your body against his will soothe him and get him to sleep some long stretches - cause when my babies (and I) got into a sleep deficit things seemed to spiral downwards quickly. Owen virtually lived in a baby carrier of some sort (I went through 4 carriers - the Ergo was the best from the time he was 6 months old) for the first 16 months of his life and I truly wished I had done it for all my kids, you still might have to stomp, jiggle and rock but it is so much easier with the carrier (sorry if I am telling you how to suck eggs). There is 16 months between Cy and Owen and Cy didn't walk till he was 19.5 months so I got very strong with a toddler on the hip and baby on my front, now I am a shadow of my former self now I have flabby and flimsy biceps, growning and grunting lifting either of my boys up to my hip but for a while I looked like Linda Hamilton when she ws in Terminator 2 (anyway....). I hope you get some direction from your Ped. something that is an easy fix. Goodluck today and tonight (just take it a minute at a time if you have too) with love and blessings Viv

  3. oh no I think my long comment went to cyberspace the abbreviated version is -
Have you got a baby carrier one that you can hold him upright in, the deep pressure of your boday on his may get him to sleep some long stretches I always found a sleep deficit that babies get into the worst thing ever. Owen lived in a baby carrier for the first 16 months and I feel it saved us ! You may have to dance adn jiggle about but it is so much easier with the carrier.(sorry if I am telling you how to suck eggs)
Hope the Ped brings news and a solution!

  4. I am so sorry that things are not getting better for Charlie and the rest of you. I hope you are getting some sort of break from family/friends.
Have you tried Probiotics drops for Charlie yet? There was a recent article in Pediatrics stating they were effective for some babies in helping with reflux/colic/unhappy baby. Two of my friends have their babies on them and seem to think it does help their tummy's out.
    Wishing you better days.
